Miranda & Yose: Guardians of the Grove is more than just a children’s book — it’s the heart of a magical world that has come to life in ways I never imagined. It was the very first story I wrote in the Guardians of the Grove series, born from a desire to create something meaningful, enchanting, and rooted in the natural beauty of the forests near Yosemite.

The inspiration came from my love of storytelling and my deep connection to community events, especially those where imagination, nature, and wonder intersect. I imagined a forest where kindness mattered, where magic lived in the trees, and where even the smallest fairy or fiercest dragon had an important role in caring for the Earth. That’s how Miranda the Forest Fairy and Yose the Dragon came to life — not just on the page, but in the real world, too.

At our festivals, especially inside the beloved Fairy Village, children don wings, sip tea with Miranda, and meet Yose in person. They laugh, explore, build fairy houses, and take the Guardians of the Grove pledge, making the story a lived experience. Families return each year to see their favorite characters, hear the story again, and remind their children (and themselves) that they, too, have a role to play in protecting the magic of the world around them.

Because of this connection — between the story, the characters, the children, and the experiences — Miranda & Yose remains the most talked-about book I’ve written. It’s where the magic began. And for many families, it’s where their own journey as Guardians of the Grove began, too.
